Below are some best practices and dispelling internet myths. This will help you save your device and data including those precious photos.
We have seen everything from dips in the bay and bathtubs to coffee and wine spills. Even phones soaking in children's cereal bowls.
Most newer premium phones are water resistant, not waterproof.
Laptops and tablets are mostly not water resistant.
When your device gets wet it can continue to work for a few minutes to hours. As liquid works its way through the microchips you could start to see issues like jumpy or partially black or dim screen due to corrosion.
One of the biggest misconceptions on the internet is that putting a device in a bag of rice will do anything besides getting rice and dust stuck in your charging port, speakers, microphone and display. Rice will not speed up the drying process any faster than doing nothing.
Powering down the device or removing the battery is the best way to stop a short before it happens. If you believe water did get inside we will be able to open and clean and dry it safely. We have seen devices with liquid still in them days after submersion.
A cup of tap water is not as corrosive as a glass of wine or saltwater. If your phone takes a dunk in the bay, time is of the essence. If you can’t get it to us right away and your phone is already showing a reaction it might be better to put it in a bag of distilled water or isopropyl alcohol. This would help preserve data but will also likely damage your screen if it’s not already damaged.
